Ranking taleNineteen. That is how many places Diane Parry has climbed in this week's WTA rankings, from 50 to a career-high 31, the biggest move anywhere on the list. The 23-year-old Frenchwoman won the title in Monterrey to get there, moving past her previous career high of 48.

Ranking taleSix. Arthur Fils won the third set of the Cincinnati Open final 6-0, the exact reverse of the 1-6 second set Frances Tiafoe had just taken off him. Fils closed out the match 6-3 1-6 6-0 for his first Cincinnati title.

News taleFour. That is how many matches Nick Kyrgios has played in 2026, and the last of them, a first-round loss in Mallorca on a wildcard, is where he gave the sample that has now suspended him. The International Tennis Integrity Agency provisionally suspended the 31-year-old Australian on 4 August, after a WADA-accredited laboratory found benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, in a sample collected on 22 June. Kyrgios made it public himself on Wednesday: “I made a huge mistake and I take full responsibility for it.”

The tour is thick with players whose surname arrived before they did.
FeatureThirty. That is how many places Luca Van Assche gained after winning the Estoril title, from No. 78 to a career-best No. 48 in the ATP rankings. He was one of two Frenchmen with a tour-level title this week: Quentin Halys won Kitzbuhel and rose 31 places to No. 52. Neither result stirred the top of the list, where Jannik Sinner stayed unmoved at No. 1.
Ranking taleTwenty-nine. That is how many places Lilli Tagger climbed in this week's WTA rankings, from No. 74 to a career-best No. 45, after the 18-year-old won the Livesport Prague Open. She was one of four players to break into the top 50 in a week when the entire top 10 held its exact place.

Match tale85. That is where Stefanos Tsitsipas is ranked in the world, and on Sunday he won the Swiss Open Gstaad anyway, beating Raphael Collignon 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-3 in the final for the 14th tour title of his career, his first since Dubai in 2025.
Match taleOne. Daniel Merida Aguilar, 21 and ranked 82nd, is a tour-level champion for the first time. He beat Damir Dzumhur 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 in the Croatia Open Umag final, breaking serve seven times along the way and recovering from serving for the match at 5-4 in the second set and losing it 7-5, the only set he dropped all week.
Match taleSeven. That is where Linda Noskova sits in the WTA rankings this week, five places higher than a week ago, and the reason is a Wimbledon title. She beat Karolina Muchova in the final, and the two of them now sit side by side in the top 10, where last week there was one Czech.
Ranking taleSeventy-eight. That is how many places Arthur Fery climbed in the ATP rankings this week, from 114 to 36, and every one of them came out of a single fortnight at Wimbledon. Above him the other big move was a return: Alexander Zverev, who beat Fery in the semi-final and lost the final, is back at No. 2, the highest he has ever been ranked.

Both finalists are Czech, so whoever wins, the Wimbledon women's trophy is going home with a Czech name on it.
