WTA rankings: Parry up to a career-high 31

Nineteen. That is how many places Diane Parry has climbed in this week's WTA rankings, from 50 to a career-high 31, the biggest move anywhere on the list. The 23-year-old Frenchwoman won the title in Monterrey to get there, moving past her previous career high of 48.

Parry's week in Monterrey did the work. She beat Donna Vekic, Oleksandra Oliynykova, Clara Tauson and Ann Li on her way to the final, then beat Elise Mertens 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 for the title, a tour-level trophy. The result is worth 19 places on the WTA rankings, from No. 50 to a career-high No. 31 at 23.

The final in Monterrey moved two players on the list. Elise Mertens, the runner-up, climbs from 24 to 20 at 30, into the top 20, and gives Belgium a player in the top 20, where it had none a week ago. Tereza Valentova, 19, climbs seven places, from 57 to 50, to enter the top 50. Elsewhere Yuliia Starodubtseva rises from 74 to 58, and Darja Vidmanova moves from 90 to 75 for a new career high of her own. Jasmine Paolini went the other way, slipping from 20 to 21 and out of the top 20 in the same week Mertens moved into it.

None of it touched the top of the list. Every place in the top 10 is unchanged, and Aryna Sabalenka sat out the week still at No. 1, with a lead of 434 points over Elena Rybakina in second, a narrow margin at the top of the WTA rankings.
