One point from out, Muchová reaches an all-Czech final with Nosková

Twelve. That is the tiebreak score that sent Karolína Muchová into her first Wimbledon final, saving a match point along the way and beating Coco Gauff 6-2, 1-6, 7-6(10). She will play Linda Nosková, a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Marta Kostyuk in the other semi-final, for the title on Saturday. Both finalists are Czech, so whoever wins, the Wimbledon women's trophy is going home with a Czech name on it.

Karolína Muchová has needed six matches and two escapes to get here. She opened with routine wins over Anastasia Zakharova (6-3, 6-2) and Shuai Zhang (6-3, 6-2), then a tighter one against Mananchaya Sawangkaew, 6-2, 7-6(1), before an all-Czech fourth round against Barbora Krejčíková that went the distance, 7-5, 5-7, 6-3. A 7-6(4), 6-4 win over Naomi Osaka in the quarter-final set up the semi-final that will define this run. Against Coco Gauff, Muchová won the first set 6-2, lost the second 1-6, and stayed with her through a decider that reached 6-6 and Wimbledon's 10-point deciding tiebreak. Down 8-9, Muchová saved the match point when Gauff, with the simplest of putaways to close it, an attacking ball at the net she meant to end the rally with, missed it. Then Muchová nearly did the same: she slipped at the net and let a first match point of her own go, before converting the second to win the tiebreak 12-10 and reach her first Wimbledon final.

Linda Nosková's route has been more direct but not without its own recovery. She beat Ella Seidel 6-4, 6-3 and Camila Osorio 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 to open, then survived a third-round tiebreak scare against Sorana Cirstea, dropping the first set 2-6 before winning it 6-3, 7-6(9). A 6-4, 7-6(2) win over Madison Keys in the fourth round and a 6-3, 7-5 win over Elise Mertens in the quarter-final followed, and in the semi-final she was the calmer of the two Czechs on the day, beating Marta Kostyuk 6-4, 6-4 without needing a deciding set at all. It is her first Grand Slam final.

Whoever lifts the trophy on Saturday, it will be a Czech champion, the third in four years after Markéta Vondroušová in 2023 and Barbora Krejčíková in 2024. It also caps a Czech grass summer that produced three maiden grass titles before the fortnight even started: Muchová won Bad Homburg, Nosková won Berlin, and Marie Bouzková won Nottingham. The two have met once. Karolína Muchová won their only previous meeting, in the third round of the 2025 US Open, 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-2, so she leads their head-to-head 1-0. Both are into their first Wimbledon final. For Linda Nosková, a win would be a maiden Grand Slam title at the first attempt; for Muchová, a second major final after Roland Garros 2023, where she finished runner-up, and a chance to finally close one out.
