Noskova drops one set all week, wins Berlin over Pegula

One. That is how many sets Linda Noskova dropped all week in Berlin, and the only one came in a final she still won, beating world No 4 Jessica Pegula 6-4 4-6 6-3 for the first grass-court title of her career.

The week before the final was a procession. Noskova beat Renata Zarazua 6-1 6-4, Diane Parry 6-2 6-2, Paula Badosa 6-1 6-3 and Alexandra Eala 6-2 6-4, four wins that never reached a third set. The world No 13 arrived in the final having lost 19 games across four matches.

Pegula was the one player to take a set off her. The world No 4 levelled the final by winning the second 6-4, but Noskova won 81 percent of her first-serve points across the match and pulled away in the decider 6-3. It is the biggest title of her career: her only previous one, Monterrey in 2024, came on a hard court and without a top-five name in the final.

At 21, Noskova leaves Berlin with a first grass title and a first win over a player ranked this high in a final. She was not the only Czech to lift a grass trophy on Sunday either: a few hours earlier, Marie Bouzkova had won Nottingham.
