WTA rankings: Siniakova climbs into the top 50

Thirty-seven. That is how many places Katerina Siniakova climbed in the latest WTA rankings, from No. 86 to No. 49, the biggest move of the week and one of three women who climbed into the top 50.

Katerina Siniakova is 30, and she began the week outside the top 80. Her run through Osaka took her past two players who also finished the week inside the top 50: Katie Boulter in the semi-final and Ashlyn Krueger in the final. That is the whole story of the jump, one tour-level week that moved her from 86 to 49. It is not a career best, since her highest ranking remains No. 27, reached in 2024, but it puts her back among the seeds-in-waiting.

The same week lifted the two players she beat. Krueger, 22, went from 55 to 44 as the Osaka runner-up, and Boulter, 30, from 58 to 48 after reaching the semi-final. Leylah Fernandez, 24, rose from 30 to 23 after Ningbo. Polina Kudermetova, 23, came through qualifying there and moved from 105 to 91, into the top 100. Not everyone gained: Belinda Bencic fell from 14 to 20, and Jaqueline Cristian from 71 to 83. Karolina Pliskova and Sonay Kartal both dropped out of the top 50. By country, the United States lost a place in the top 100, from 15 players to 14, while Ukraine gained one, from six to seven.

At the top, Elena Rybakina stays at No. 1 and she won Ningbo. Her lead over Aryna Sabalenka at No. 2 is 1,951 points, a gap no single week can close. Further down the top 10 there was one swap: Iga Swiatek moved up from 9 to 8, with Linda Noskova going the other way. Marta Kostyuk holds No. 10, which equals her career best. Everything else in the top seven stayed where it was in the WTA rankings.
