ATP rankings: Munar into the top 50, Vacherot to 14, Lehecka and Cerundolo into the top 20

Fifteen. That is how many places Jaume Munar climbed this week, from 64 to 49, to put a Tokyo qualifier inside the top 50. Valentin Vacherot rose four places to a career-high No. 14, and Jiri Lehecka and Francisco Cerundolo both crossed into the top 20, so the band between 14 and 50 looks different from the one it replaced.

Munar is 29 and arrived in Tokyo outside the main draw. He won two qualifying rounds, beat Marcos Giron and then Aleksandar Kovacevic, and carried on through the main draw: Taylor Fritz in the first round, then Jaime Faria and Kyrian Jacquet, before Carlos Alcaraz stopped him in the semifinals. That run took him from 64 to 49. It is not a career best; his highest ranking is 33. It does put him inside the top 50.

Vacherot, 27, reached the Tokyo semifinals, beating Stefanos Tsitsipas and then Arthur Fils in the quarterfinals before Lehecka stopped him. He moves from 18 to 14, and 14 is the highest he has stood; his previous best was 16. Lehecka, 24, went one round further and lost the final to Alcaraz, which moves him from 23 to 19. Cerundolo, 28, went from 22 to 20 after a quarterfinal in Beijing. Neither is at a career high, but both are in the top 20. The country count shows it: Czechia now has two players there, up from one, Argentina has one, up from none, and Italy has two, down from three after Luciano Darderi slipped from 19 to 21. Further down, Bu Yunchaokete, 24, rose from 104 to 93. China had no one in the top 100 a week ago and now has one.

In the ATP rankings, the top is settled. Jannik Sinner did not play and stays at No. 1, 1,280 points clear of Alexander Zverev at No. 2. Alcaraz is third and Ben Shelton fourth, both unchanged. The only movement inside the top 10 is two swaps: Daniil Medvedev up to 5 and Felix Auger-Aliassime down to 6, and Alex De Minaur up to 9 and Fils down to 10.
