Jannik Sinner

Jannik Sinner grew up on the ski slopes of the German-speaking South Tyrol, a junior racer who swapped the mountains for a tennis court in his early teens. He plays like a man who has already decided how the point ends: a flat, low two-handed backhand that skims the net and steals time, groundstrokes struck from inside the baseline, and a stillness between points that rivals mistake for indifference until the next ball comes back heavier. He meets pressure by lowering the temperature, not raising it.

The ice held at the 2024 Australian Open, where he lost the first two sets of the final to Daniil Medvedev and won the last three, the first Italian man to take a major since 1976. He reached world No. 1 on 10 June 2024 and finished the year there. Two of his 5 Grand Slam titles have come in Melbourne, one at the US Open, two at Wimbledon, and behind them sit 31 career titles. His 2025 ran opposite Carlos Alcaraz: a five-set Roland Garros final lost from championship point up, then a Wimbledon final won in four. In 2026 he kept the Wimbledon title, a fifth major at 24, beating Alexander Zverev in a four-set final in which he faced one break point and saved it.

ATP rankings: Buse into the top 30 at 22

Thirty. That is the new career-high ranking for Ignacio Buse, up from 36, the top-30 arrival that defines an otherwise quiet US Open opening week on the ATP rankings, one in which the top 10 did not move by a single place.

The US Open draw sends Alcaraz toward a projected semi-final with Djokovic

Four. That is how many US Open titles Novak Djokovic has already won, and the draw made on 27 August 2026 puts him on course to meet Carlos Alcaraz, the defending champion who also won the title in 2022, in the semi-final. Both are seeded in the same half of the 128-player field; play starts on 30 August.
