Rafael Jodar

Rafael Jodar took a route almost no Spanish prospect tries: through American college tennis. After winning the 2024 US Open boys' title, beating top seed Nicolai Budkov Kjaer in a deciding tiebreak, the Madrid native enrolled at the University of Virginia and was named college tennis's national rookie of the year. He won three Challenger titles between August and October 2025, something only two other Spanish teenagers, Carlos Alcaraz and Nicolas Almagro, had done, and turned professional that December.

The 2026 season made the detour look like a shortcut. He won his maiden tour title at Marrakech in April, in his first ATP clay event, beat Alex de Minaur 6-3, 6-1 in Madrid for a first top-ten win, and reached the Roland Garros quarter-finals on debut, climbing to a career-high No. 23 in June. At six foot three he strikes a heavy, flat ball, and Jannik Sinner called him a very clean hitter with very easy power, praise earned before he had completed a full season on tour.
