Alejandro Tabilo

Novak Djokovic has played Alejandro Tabilo twice and never taken a set. The Chilean left-hander stunned the then world No. 1 in Rome in May 2024, 6-2, 6-3, then beat him again in Monte Carlo a year later; few men have faced Djokovic more than once and never lost. Born in Toronto in 1997 to Chilean parents, Tabilo switched allegiance to Chile in 2017 and toiled on the Challenger circuit before the tour learned his name.

The breakout season was 2024: a first title in Auckland as a qualifier, another in Mallorca that made him the first Chilean man of the Open era to win on grass, and a career-high No. 19 that July. For a clay-raised admirer of Rafael Nadal it is a curious ledger: none of his 3 career titles has come on clay; the latest came on hard in Chengdu in 2025, past Lorenzo Musetti in a deciding tiebreak. In 2026 he reached his first ATP 500 final in Rio; the home surface still owes him a trophy.
