Tommy Paul

Tommy Paul announced himself on Paris clay in 2015, beating fellow American Taylor Fritz in three sets for the junior Roland Garros title. The professional breakthrough took longer, but the tools were always there: an attacking forehand, quick feet along the baseline and the instinct to come forward and finish. At the 2023 Australian Open he ran to the semi-finals before Novak Djokovic, the eventual champion, stopped him, and in June 2025, days after a Roland Garros quarter-final, he reached a career-high world No. 8.

He won Queen's Club on grass in 2024, then the body gave way: an abdominal strain at the 2025 French Open, a ruptured foot tendon at Wimbledon, and a season shut down by late October. The answer came at Houston in April 2026, where he saved three championship points in the final against Roman Andres Burruchaga to land his first clay-court trophy, the newest of his 5 career titles. Fitness, not the tennis, has become the question that decides his seasons.
