Roberto Bautista Agut
Roberto Bautista Agut played football in Villarreal's youth system until he was 14, and the tennis he built afterwards kept a midfielder's discipline: flat, clean hitting off both wings, the ball taken early, nothing given away for free. It was a quiet game that peaked late. He entered the top ten for the first time at 31, reaching a career-high No. 9 in November 2019, and gathered 13 career titles by refusing to beat himself.
The 2019 season held everything at once. His Wimbledon semi-final run was so unexpected that his bachelor party had already started without him; his friends flew in from Ibiza to watch him take a set off Novak Djokovic on Centre Court. In November his father died during Davis Cup week, eighteen months after his mother, and he still returned to help Spain lift the title days later. He carried both losses the way he plays, with restraint. In April 2026 he announced that the season would be his last.
