Italian tennis, a short history

Jannik Sinner is the heart of the men's record: 5 Grand Slam titles, among them back-to-back Wimbledons in 2025 and 2026, in 2024 the first Italian to reach world No. 1, and finals at the 2025 US Open and Roland Garros. Before him, Adriano Panatta won Roland Garros in 1976, the only other Italian man to take a major. Matteo Berrettini reached the 2021 Wimbledon final, and Flavio Cobolli the 2026 Roland Garros final.

The women carry two Grand Slam champions. Francesca Schiavone won Roland Garros in 2010 and returned to the final in 2011. Flavia Pennetta took the 2015 US Open, beating Roberta Vinci in an all-Italian final. Sara Errani reached the 2012 Roland Garros final, and Jasmine Paolini made both the Wimbledon and Roland Garros finals in 2024.

Titles and records run from 1968, the start of the Open era.
