Swiatek takes her first title of the season off the world number two

One. That is how many titles Iga Swiatek has won in 2026, and Toronto is it, her first since Seoul last year. She beat Elena Rybakina, the world number two and the second seed, 6-2, 6-3 without losing a service game.

Swiatek held all eight of her service games and saved both break points she faced. She landed 80 percent of her first serves to Rybakina's 57 percent, won 4 of her 5 break points, and finished with 56 of the 97 points played. The match ended 12 games to 5.

Swiatek broke in the opening game to lead 1-0, broke again for 5-2 and took the first set 6-2. The second had the same shape, a break to 3-2 and another to end it 6-3, so the match finished on a break of serve rather than a hold. Rybakina, who had come from a set down to beat both Naomi Osaka and Coco Gauff on her way to the final, held five of her nine service games.

Seeded seventh, Swiatek had dropped the first set to Marta Kostyuk, the 10th seed, in the last 16 before winning in three, then beat Diana Shnaider, seeded 15th, and Elina Svitolina, the 9th seed. Toronto is her 27th tour title, six of them Grand Slams, and it takes her season record to 27-12. It was also the 13th meeting with Rybakina, a rivalry that started in Ostrava in 2021 and went into this final level at 6-6. Swiatek leads it 7-6.
