WTA rankings: Swiatek back to No. 5, and three places change hands behind her

Five. That is where Iga Swiatek stands on the WTA rankings after Toronto, up three from 8, and her climb moved Mirra Andreeva, Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova down one each, to 6, 7 and 8.

Swiatek is 25 and the No. 5 is ground she has covered before: she held No. 1 for 120 weeks from April 2022, so this is a climb back up the list rather than new territory. The three places behind her changed hands without any of the three losing anything themselves. Andreeva goes from 5 to 6, Muchova from 6 to 7, and Noskova from 7 to 8, each simply passed.

Further down, Liudmila Samsonova is back inside the top 50, from 55 to 43, after beating Barbora Krejcikova and Maya Joint in Toronto. Taylor Townsend, 30, climbed 16 places, from 110 to 94, and is back in the top 100. Alina Korneeva, 19, went from 89 to 75, which equals her best ranking, after qualifying and then beating Emma Navarro and Iva Jovic. Moyuka Uchijima landed exactly on 100, up from 111. Two more players touched their ceiling on smaller moves: Nikola Bartunkova, 20, went from 42 to 39 for a career best, and Ann Li from 31 to 29, equalling the best she first reached in May. On the way down, Clara Tauson fell from 30 to 42, while Emma Raducanu, 49 to 59, and Mccartney Kessler, 48 to 58, both dropped out of the top 50.

At the top, Aryna Sabalenka stayed at No. 1 despite losing in the last 16 in Toronto to Ekaterina Alexandrova, and her lead over Elena Rybakina is 354 points. Rybakina holds No. 2, which equals her own best. Jessica Pegula at No. 3 and Coco Gauff at No. 4 are unchanged, and the United States now has 15 players in the top 100, one more than last week.
