Majchrzak, ranked 76, beats three top-10 players for a first title

Three. That is how many top-10 players Kamil Majchrzak, ranked 76, beat in a row to win the first title of his career: Felix Auger-Aliassime, Daniil Medvedev and Alex De Minaur, in Rosmalen.

Majchrzak spent the back half of the week beating the best players in the draw, and he did it without a seed to his own name. In the quarter-final he beat world No 4 Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-4 6-3. In the semi-final he beat world No 8 Daniil Medvedev 7-6(4) 6-1. Three top-10 wins in a row were now down to one.

The final was the tightest of them. Alex De Minaur, the 2024 Rosmalen champion who had come into the weekend one win from another grass title, took the second set and pushed Majchrzak to a deciding tiebreak. Majchrzak won it 7-5 for a 6-3 2-6 7-6(5) victory and the biggest match of his life.

It is the first ATP title of Majchrzak’s career, and in fact his first tour-level final of any kind: before this week, nothing in his record had him getting this far. Three top-10 wins, one trophy, the sort of week that does not come twice.
