Shelton wins Montreal without facing a break point in the final

Zero. That is how many break points Ben Shelton faced in the Montreal final. He beat Brandon Nakashima 6-3, 7-6(4) for the National Bank Open title, holding all 10 of his service games and never once letting Nakashima near the serve.

Nakashima had the harder night of it, saving two of the four break points he faced and holding nine of his eleven service games. Shelton won 76 percent of his second serve points to Nakashima's 50 percent, hit 22 winners against 12 unforced errors where Nakashima hit 19 against 21, and finished with 65 of the 118 points played to Nakashima's 53.

The first set went on the two breaks: one in the seventh game for 4-3, another in the ninth to close it out 6-3. Neither man was broken in the second, so a tiebreak decided it. Shelton reached match point twice there, Nakashima saved the first, and the second ended the match, the breaker going 7-4.

The title is Shelton's seventh on tour and his fourth of 2026, after Dallas, Munich and Stuttgart, and it takes his season record to 33-12. He did not drop a set across six matches in Montreal, beating four seeded players before the final: Zizou Bergs in the last 32, Joao Fonseca in the last 16, Jakub Mensik in the quarter-final and Learner Tien in the semi-final. He won the Canada Masters in 2025 as well, so this is back to back titles in Canada. Nakashima leaves with a fourth final lost against the two titles he has won, and a head to head with Shelton that now reads 6-0.
