Griekspoor wins Brussels after going a set down three times running

Three. That is how many consecutive matches Tallon Griekspoor won from a set down to take the European Open title. The world number 60 beat Jan Lennard Struff 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Sunday in Brussels for his fourth tour title and his first since Mallorca in 2025.

Griekspoor arrived in Brussels at 30 and 16-19 for the season. He beat seed 8 Mariano Navone in the second round, then dropped the first set in each of his last three matches. He came back to beat seed 2 Jiri Lehecka in the quarterfinal, seed 3 Francisco Cerundolo in the semifinal, and Struff in the final.

The final followed the same shape. Struff broke for a 3-2 lead in the first set and took it 6-4. After that, Griekspoor held the margins. He saved 6 of the 7 break points he faced, while Struff saved 3 of the 5 he faced. Griekspoor converted 2 of his 5 chances, and Struff converted 1 of 7. Griekspoor broke to lead 5-3 in the second set and levelled the match at 6-3. In the third he broke for 5-4 in the ninth game and held to win 6-4. He hit 19 aces and won 54 percent of the points, 93 of 173.

This is Griekspoor's fourth title, after Pune and s-Hertogenbosch in 2023 and Mallorca in 2025. He has now beaten Struff in all four of their meetings, having led the head-to-head 3-0 coming in. Struff, 36 and ranked 58, remains on one career title, Munich in 2024.
