Tsitsipas, ranked 85, wins Gstaad for a first title since Dubai 2025

85. That is where Stefanos Tsitsipas is ranked in the world, and on Sunday he won the Swiss Open Gstaad anyway, beating Raphael Collignon 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-3 in the final for the 14th tour title of his career, his first since Dubai in 2025.

Tsitsipas is 27 and has been far higher than this: his career-high ranking is No. 3, first reached on 9 August 2021, a mark he held for 22 weeks. Collignon, 24 and the tournament's seventh seed, arrived at the final ranked 42, one place better than the 43 he reached on 6 July. Gstaad is a clay-court event with a draw of 32, and Tsitsipas needed four wins to reach the title match, three of them going three sets.

The final turned four times. Tsitsipas broke for 4-2 in the first set, Collignon broke straight back for 4-3, and Tsitsipas closed the set with a second break in the tenth game. Collignon broke first in the second set and Tsitsipas broke back for 3-3, and from there it went to a tiebreak, which Collignon won 7-3 to level the match. In the third Tsitsipas broke for 3-2 and again in the ninth game, and even the closing game was not simple: he needed two match points before Collignon gave way.

It is Tsitsipas's 14th tour title and his first since Dubai in 2025; the thirteen before it span Stockholm in 2018 to that trophy last year, including three Monte Carlo Masters titles. He has also lost 18 tour finals, a number that makes this Sunday the exception rather than the rule. Collignon leaves without the trophy but with wins over the third seed Valentin Vacherot in the quarter-final and the sixth seed Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the semi-final, the latter after saving a match point and closing it out 7-5 in the third.
