Sinner ends his season with a knee injury, and Turin loses its two-time champion
44-3. That is Jannik Sinner's 2026 season, and it is now over. The world No. 1 said on Tuesday that a knee injury needs treatment, which takes him out of everything left this year, the ATP Finals in Turin included, where he has won the last two titles.
He has not played since the Wimbledon final, a 6-7(7) 7-6(2) 6-3 6-4 win over Alexander Zverev that defended his title and made it five Grand Slams. Since then he has withdrawn from Montreal, Cincinnati, the US Open, Beijing and Shanghai. Sinner said that he and his doctors had decided he needs "a course of treatment on my knee, which means that the 2026 season is officially over." Before Wimbledon he had won five Masters 1000 titles in a row, Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome, part of a 30-match winning streak that ended in the second round of Roland Garros, where Juan Manuel Cerundolo came back from two sets down.
Turin is where the absence shows most. Sinner is 15-2 at the ATP Finals, champion in 2024 and 2025 and runner-up in 2023, unbeaten in his last 10 matches there. He goes out as No. 1 on 11,000 points, 1,280 ahead of Zverev in the ranking of 5 October. The ATP has Zverev ahead in its Race to Turin by 800 points; the German won Roland Garros and the US Open this year and lost the Madrid and Wimbledon finals to Sinner.
