Boris Becker

He arrived at Wimbledon in 1985 unseeded and 17 years old, and left as its youngest men's champion, beating Kevin Curren 6-3, 6-7, 7-6, 6-4 behind a serve the tour called Boom Boom and a diving volley no one had made a weapon before. Boris Becker defended the title in 1986 and played seven finals on that grass in all, winning three. His 6 majors also took in two Australian Opens and the 1989 US Open, won over Ivan Lendl.

The Wimbledon finals against Stefan Edberg in 1988, 1989 and 1990 gave the era its rivalry; Becker took the middle one, the peak of his best season. Beating Lendl in the 1991 Australian Open final at last made him world No. 1, a ranking he held for 12 weeks. He retired in 1999 with 50 career titles, then coached Novak Djokovic from 2013 to 2016, six more majors won from the other chair.
