Agnieszka Radwanska

Agnieszka Radwanska was the counterargument in a power era. While the tour hit ever harder, she won with angles, disguise and touch: the no-look flicks and behind-the-back winners earned her the nickname "the magician" and five straight fan-voted WTA Shot of the Year awards, 2013 through 2017. Wimbledon 2012 was the summit. The first Pole in a Grand Slam singles final since 1939, she took a set off Serena Williams before falling 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, and rose to world No. 2 two days later.

The biggest trophy came at the 2015 WTA Finals in Singapore, where she lost two of her three round-robin matches and still became the first champion to win the title from that position, beating Petra Kvitova 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in the final. Five major semifinals, three of them at Wimbledon, and 20 career titles later, a worn body forced retirement in November 2018 at 29. She carried Polish tennis for a decade before Iga Swiatek, and has since coached compatriot Magda Linette.
