French tennis, a short history
On the men's side the landmark remains Yannick Noah, the 1983 Roland Garros champion and still the last French man to win the home Slam. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga reached the 2008 Australian Open final across 18 tour titles, Cedric Pioline made two, the 1993 US Open and the 1997 Wimbledon, and Henri Leconte the 1988 Roland Garros final. Richard Gasquet and Gael Monfils added Grand Slam semifinals across long careers.
The women carry the bigger Slam haul. Mary Pierce won 2 majors, the 1995 Australian Open and the 2000 Roland Garros, while Amelie Mauresmo took 2, the 2006 Australian Open and Wimbledon, and became the first French player to reach world number one. Marion Bartoli won Wimbledon in 2013, six years after reaching her first final there. Nathalie Tauziat was the 1998 Wimbledon runner-up, and Lois Boisson reached the last four at Roland Garros 2025.
Titles and records run from 1968, the start of the Open era.
