Jo-Wilfried Tsonga

Unseeded and ranked 38, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga dismantled Rafael Nadal 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 in the 2008 Australian Open semifinal, all leaping smashes and flying forehands, before Novak Djokovic stopped him in a four-set final. The Muhammad Ali resemblance gave him a nickname; the grin and the dancing were his own. He rose to No. 5 in February 2012, collected 18 career titles including Masters crowns in Paris and Toronto, and is one of only three men to beat each of the Big Four at a major.

At Wimbledon in 2011 he beat Roger Federer from two sets down, the first man to do it to him at a slam, and in 2017 he helped France win the Davis Cup. Knees, back and shoulder kept interrupting, and the shoulder had the final say at Roland Garros 2022, giving out in a fourth-set tiebreak against Casper Ruud as Chatrier stood and roared through his tears. He now runs the All In Academy with his old coach Thierry Ascione and co-owns the Moselle Open.
