Bianca Andreescu

Nineteen years old and in her first US Open main draw, Bianca Andreescu beat Serena Williams 6-3, 7-5 in the 2019 final, the first Canadian to win a Grand Slam singles title. All 3 of her career titles came in that one season: Indian Wells as a wildcard, Toronto, then New York, and by October she was world No. 4. The game matched the rise: raw power wrapped in disguise, drop shots everywhere, a forehand hit flat, heavy or sliced.

What followed reads like a medical file. A knee injury at the 2019 WTA Finals cost her all of 2020, a mental health break at the end of 2021 lasted into spring, back and ankle problems broke up each comeback, and appendix surgery stopped her again in 2025. She keeps starting over: early in 2026 she dropped to the ITF circuit, won two titles in Florida, and climbed back onto the tour by spring. Born in 2000, she is still only 26, and nobody who watched 2019 doubts the ceiling.
