Ons Jabeur

Nobody bends a rally out of shape like Ons Jabeur. Drop shots, slice, sudden changes of pace: the Tunisian's invention carried her to three Grand Slam finals in thirteen months, Wimbledon in 2022 and 2023 with the 2022 US Open between them, and to world No. 2 in June 2022, both firsts for an Arab or African woman. She lost all three, to Elena Rybakina, Iga Swiatek and Marketa Vondrousova, and the last left her in tears on Centre Court, calling it the most painful loss of her career. At home they call her the Minister of Happiness.

Two injury-heavy seasons followed, and in July 2025 she announced a break, to breathe, to heal, and to rediscover the joy of living, she said. That November she announced her pregnancy; in April 2026 she and her husband welcomed a son, Elyan. Her 5 career titles wait where she left them. She has spent 2026 mentoring Turkey's Zeynep Sonmez and says she wants to play again before the 2027 season.
