2 Grand Slam finals mark the high point of the South African men's game, both reached by Kevin Anderson, at the 2017 US Open and 2018 Wimbledon, where he climbed to a career high of world No. 5. Wayne Ferreira won 15 tour titles and reached the Australian Open semifinals in 1992 and 2003, the most decorated of a deep group that includes Bob Hewitt with 11 and Cliff Drysdale with 8.

3 major semifinals belong to Amanda Coetzer, the "Little Assassin" who reached world No. 3, with last-four runs at the 1996 and 1997 Australian Opens and the 1997 French Open. Patricia Walkden heads the women's title count with 14, ahead of Annette Van Zyl on 10, a Roland Garros semifinalist in 1968. Yvonne Vermaak reached the Wimbledon semifinals in 1983.
