Mexican tennis, a short history
Mexican men own one Grand Slam singles title: Rafael Osuna won the 1963 US Championships and reached world number one that year, the only Mexican to do either. Raul Ramirez is the most decorated of all with 20 tour titles, and reached three Grand Slam semi-finals, at Roland Garros in 1976 and 1977 and Wimbledon in 1976. Leonardo Lavalle adds a tour title to the record.
Among the women, Yola Ramirez is the standout: a two-time Roland Garros singles finalist, in 1960 and 1961, with 2 tour titles to her name. Elena Subirats leads the women's title count with 4, and Heliane Steden won 2 more.
Titles and records run from 1968, the start of the Open era.
