Chinese tennis, a short history
On the men's side the honours are still being earned. Yibing Wu and Bu Yunchaokete carry the work of building a heritage from a thin base.
The women own this country's tennis history. Na Li stands above all, the first Asian player to win a Grand Slam singles title, champion at Roland Garros in 2011 and the Australian Open in 2014, with 9 tour titles in all. Qinwen Zheng reached the 2024 Australian Open final and won Olympic gold in Paris that summer, China's first singles gold, holding 5 tour titles. Jie Zheng made the Wimbledon semis in 2008, and Shuai Peng the US Open semis in 2014.
Titles and records run from 1968, the start of the Open era.
