Bosnian tennis, a short history
23 in the ATP rankings is as high as any Bosnian has climbed, a peak Damir Dzumhur reached in 2018. He was the first Bosnian man to reach a Grand Slam main draw, at the 2014 Australian Open, and in 2017 the first to win a tour-level title, at the St Petersburg Open, part of 3 tour titles. At the 2018 French Open he held a match point on Alexander Zverev's serve in a deciding fifth set before the second seed escaped 7-5. Mirza Basic is the only other Bosnian man with an ATP title, won at the 2018 Sofia Open after beating Stan Wawrinka in the semi-finals.
The women's record is slimmer. Mervana Jugic-Salkic reached world No. 99 in singles in 2004, the highest by a Bosnian woman, and built the stronger side of her career in doubles, winning WTA titles at Auckland in 2004 and Modena in 2005.
