Ukrainian tennis, a short history

The men's story belongs mostly to one generation. Andrei Medvedev, a world No. 4 in 1994, reached the Roland Garros final in 1999 and made the semis there in 1993, and his 11 tour titles still top the country's men. Sergiy Stakhovsky won 4 titles, and Alexandr Dolgopolov added 3.

The women carry a deep recent record. Elina Svitolina owns 20 tour titles, the most of any Ukrainian, plus an Olympic singles bronze at Tokyo 2020, Ukraine's first tennis medal, and four Grand Slam semi-finals from the 2019 US Open and Wimbledon to Wimbledon 2023 and the 2026 Australian Open. Marta Kostyuk reached the Roland Garros semis in 2026 and Dayana Yastremska the Australian Open last four in 2024. Lesia Tsurenko, Kateryna Bondarenko and Alona Bondarenko round out a strong supporting cast.

Titles and records run from 1968, the start of the Open era.
