Thai tennis, a short history
The men's record belongs to Paradorn Srichaphan, who won 5 tour titles and reached a career high of No. 9 in May 2003, the first Asian man to break into the ATP top 10. His signature win came at Wimbledon in 2002, when he beat Andre Agassi in the second round. He reached the fourth round at the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open, but never went further at a major.
On the women's side, Tamarine Tanasugarn won 6 tour titles and climbed to a career high of No. 19 in May 2002, the best mark by a Thai woman. At Wimbledon in 2008 she reached the quarter-finals, the first Thai player to make the last eight at a Grand Slam, before losing to eventual champion Venus Williams.
