Taiwanese tennis, a short history

Taiwan's tennis story is led by its women. Su-Wei Hsieh reached a singles career high of No. 23 in 2013 and in 2021 became the first Taiwanese woman to make a Grand Slam singles quarter-final, at the Australian Open. She is better known as one of the great doubles players of her era, a multiple Grand Slam doubles champion who rose to world No. 1 in doubles, though her 3 tour titles here count singles only.

The country's earlier standard-bearer was Shi-Ting Wang, who won 6 WTA singles titles in the 1990s and climbed to a singles career high of No. 26 in 1993.

Titles and records run from 1968, the start of the Open era.
