South Korean tennis, a short history
The men's high-water mark belongs to Hyeon Chung, who reached the Australian Open semi-finals in 2018, the only Grand Slam semi-final by a Korean man, on a run that carried him to a career-high world No. 19. Hyung Taik Lee came first as a pioneer, winning the country's maiden ATP singles title at Sydney in 2003. Soon Woo Kwon has since added 2 tour titles of his own.
The women's record is led by Duk Hee Lee and Helen Park, each a 2-time tour-title winner. No Korean woman has yet broken through to a Grand Slam final, leaving that ambition for the next generation to carry forward.
Titles and records run from 1968, the start of the Open era.
