New Zealand tennis, a short history
The men's heritage runs through two Grand Slam finalists. Chris Lewis reached the 1983 Wimbledon final unseeded, falling to John McEnroe, and climbed to world No. 19. Onny Parun made an Australian Open final and spent five years inside the world's top 20, winning 6 tour titles. Brian Fairlie and Kelly Evernden each won 3.
The women's peak came from Belinda Cordwell, an Australian Open semi-finalist in 1989. Marilyn Pryde won the most tour titles of any New Zealander, 10, with Judy Chaloner and Beverley Vercoe on 7 apiece. More recently Marina Erakovic reached world No. 39 in 2012.
Titles and records run from 1968, the start of the Open era.
