Latvian tennis, a short history
The men's high point came in 2014, when Ernests Gulbis reached the Roland Garros semi-finals. Gulbis won 6 tour titles, the most by a Latvian man, though a Grand Slam final stayed out of reach.
The women carry Latvia's only major. Jelena Ostapenko won Roland Garros in 2017 as an unseeded 20-year-old, the country's first Grand Slam champion, and reached a career-high of world No. 5 in 2018 after a Wimbledon semi-final. With 9 tour titles she is also Latvia's most decorated player. Anastasija Sevastova, a 4-time titlist, made the US Open semi-finals in 2018.
