Indonesian tennis, a short history

Indonesia's tennis story is led by its women. Yayuk Basuki reached a career high of No. 19 in October 1997, the highest ranking any Indonesian has held, and won 6 tour titles. Her best run at a major was the 1997 Wimbledon quarter-finals, and she made the fourth round at the 1998 Australian Open. No Indonesian has reached a Grand Slam singles semi-final.

Angelique Widjaja won the 2001 Wimbledon girls' singles title, a first for the country, and added 2 tour titles as a teenager. Lita Liem won 1. More recently Janice Tjen broke through in 2025, taking the Chennai Open for the first Indonesian WTA singles title in 23 years.

Titles and records run from 1968, the start of the Open era.
