Hong Kong tennis, a short history
Hong Kong's recent firsts belong to Coleman Wong. He qualified into the 2024 Miami Open, Hong Kong's first ATP Masters 1000 main draw, and at the 2025 US Open beat Aleksandar Kovacevic for the country's first Grand Slam match win by a man, then reached the third round, the deepest any Hong Kong man has gone at a major. In May 2026 he won the Jiujiang Challenger for Hong Kong's first ATP Challenger title, at the sixth attempt after five runner-up finishes.
The women's record starts earlier. Paulette Moreno reached the second round of the 1988 Australian Open, one of only two Grand Slam main-draw wins by a Hong Kong player, and Zhang Ling peaked at world No. 184 in 2011 with a 2014 WTA main-draw win in Kuala Lumpur. Eudice Chong passed Zhang as the country's top-ranked woman in 2019, reaching a career-high No. 213 in 2022.
Titles and records run from 1968, the start of the Open era.
