Finnish tennis, a short history

Jarkko Nieminen holds the best men's career in the archive: 2 tour titles, a national-record world No. 13 in 2006, and three Grand Slam quarter-finals. Emil Ruusuvuori reached No. 37 in 2023 and the Wimbledon third round in 2024, while the biggest single win belongs to Otto Virtanen, who as a qualifier beat fourth seed Ben Shelton in five sets at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships, the first Finnish man in the Open era to beat a top-five seed at a major.

The women's record centers on two sisters from the 1960s and 70s. Birgitta Lindstrom is the most decorated Finnish woman in the archive with 3 tour titles, and in 1966 became the first Finn to win a Grand Slam title of any kind, the Wimbledon girls' championship. Her sister Christina Lindstrom won 1 and reached the Roland Garros singles main draw in 1968.
