Estonian tennis, a short history

Estonia's tennis story is led by its women. Anett Kontaveit climbed to a career high of No. 2 in June 2022, the highest ranking any Estonian has held, and won 6 tour titles before a back injury forced her to retire at 27 in 2023. In 2021 she became the first Estonian to reach the WTA Finals, going all the way to the championship match before losing to Garbine Muguruza.

Kaia Kanepi came first and lasted longest, winning 4 tour titles and reaching a career high of No. 15 in 2012. She is the only Estonian to make the quarter-finals of all four majors, with runs at Roland Garros, Wimbledon, the US Open and, in 2022, the Australian Open, where she beat the world No. 2 on the way. Tiiu Kivi added two titles in the earlier generation.

Titles and records run from 1968, the start of the Open era.
